Monroe County Council

District 1

Shelli Yoder
Yoder’s answers conveyed an understanding of how racial privilege informs her role as council member, and they provided a detailed focus on racial disparity in criminal justice reform. She also has extensive experience with restorative justice policies and harm reduction drug policies. Finally, she has made several attempts to reach out to BLM after submitting her questionnaire, and has offered to sit down with us to talk about the issues our questionnaire raised.

Kate Wiltz
We were particularly impressed by Wiltz’s answers on racial privilege and how her privilege will inform her role as council member. She also had a clear focus on economic justice as well as the environment. Wiltz has a particularly strong dedication to environmental justice, and had less specific experience in and slightly less emphasis on matters of racial justice.
